Gov. Shettima Declares State Of Emergency In Borno Health Sector

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, yesterday, declared state of emergency in the health sector even as he inspected 35 ambulances, drugs and other medical equipment bought by the state government for distribution to hospitals and healthcare centres across the state.
Inspecting the facilities which cost the government about N500 million,  Shettima said his administration declared the  state of emergency in the health sector for the betterment of the people of the state, and thanked the United States government for donating some medical equipment to the state government recently.
He said: ‘’Health is wealth,’’ and no meaningful government can take it for granted, hence, his administration took it as its top most priority to ensure that the people of the state had access to health care services across the 27 council areas of the state.
The newly inspected ambulances comprised of seven mobile clinics with medical gadjets.
He said that the equipment now being kept at the Borno Medical Stores,  would be commissioned along side the newly constructed hospitals in Mafa, Marte and Dikwa council areas after the forth-coming Eid -el Kabir Sallah celebration.
Also to be commissioned include the Maryam Abacha Children Hospital built and equipped by  the  administration.
“The good thing about this gesture is that we have already procured all the needed spare parts for these ambulances that can last for over two years and we are going to make sure that the ambulances which are fully equipped for emergency responses are manned by our para-medical staff in the state”. he stated.
Earlier, while conducting the governor round the facilities, the state commissioner for health, Dr. Salma Kolo commended the government for its efforts in transforming the health sector.
